I have coveted and longed for and sighed over French chairs for years. They were always too expensive for me. This fall...it was finally my time. I was able to have the first pick of furniture out of a storage unit that was full of antiques and French provincial furniture. When these two chairs came out, I knew they would be mine. I was paranoid that someone would rear end the truck on the way home and turn them into toothpicks or that someone would steal them out of the truck bed while it was in the church parking lot for 30 minutes. I wanted these chairs in my house that second.
I had to put them on the back burner for a while, but I finally got around to painting and reupholstering them this past week. They really weren't bad to start off with. I actually liked the bird fabric, but it was faded and it didn't go well with my curtains. I wanted them to look bright and simple.
Oh yes...just what I pictured when I bought them.
These chairs are actually fairly simple to reupholster, since the upholstery work is done in panels. I removed all of the fabric and staples from the chair and then painted the frame in three layers of paint and glaze. Drop cloth fabric imitates more expensive linen or hemp and it's finished off with simple white trim.
I am over the moon with how they turned out...
...and they make the room.
