Furniture Feature Friday - Favorites & a Link Party

I was totally useless today.  I did get my kids ready for school, but then I got right back in bed.  I sat on the couch and, aside from a couple of phone calls and answering some e-mail, I just chilled out.  I stayed in my jammies until noon, watched a lot of TV and wasted time in general.  It was amazing.  Now I feel ready to get back to work.

Well, I did spend some time looking through the FFF links from last week, but that's "fun work", so it still fits in the chilling out category.  Here were some standouts for me...

I love old shoe carts, but they're often rickety or the "shelves" are angled or only dowels, so I thought that Frugal Farmhouse Design was brilliant to have a modern version made.  I might have to show this to my husband...he can just add it to my already long list of honey-do projects.  I think this would look great in a bathroom.

Julie of 551 East Furniture Design painted this beautiful secretary desk...inside and out, which is a huge chore.  I think it turned out lovely.

Carrie from Lovely Etc. found this cute little cabinet at a "yard crawl."  Now, I don't know what that is, but I bet I would like it.  She picked a perfect aqua color and you know I'm a fan of dark stained tops, so this piece is right up my alley.  Great work, Carrie!

Thanks to all who participate each week!  Enjoy!

As I looked through the projects from last week, three jumped out at me almost immediately.  Usually I have to go back and forth between ones I love to narrow it down to three, but last week...there were three that I instantly loved.  Here they are...

Christie from Three Pixie Lane lovingly painted this secretary and the end result is so worth the effort.  Not only do I love the way she painted it, but the styling is perfection.  That Nordic bunting is so pretty.

Maple and Magnolia found this surveyor's cabinet on Craig's List and tackled the chore of refinishing it.  The result?  Killer.  This girl slayed this cabinet in the best possible way and the styling is spot on.  Love, love this.  I want one, now.

Little Miss Penny Wenny used one of my dressers as her inspiration for this piece, but I find her piece inspires me.  I love how far she took the distressing.  It is such a special piece, now.  Great work!

It's always tough choosing my favorites for FFF and narrowing it down to just three, so I'm going to start featuring some runner-ups (runners-up?) on my FaceBook page.  That way I don't have to choose just three.  So, "like" my page if you're interested in seeing what catches my eye.

Here are the three I really loved from last week...

Amy from Whisper Wood Cottage deconstructed this French chaise and it looks amazing.  It's a gutsy move to leave a piece like this and I think it's heavenly.

Jaime of Craft Happy Scrappy gave this card catalog some love and now it looks fabulous!  I love the size and scale of this piece as well as the warm wood.

Jillian from The Virginia House made her own hand painted Restoration Hardware inspired "Grain Sack" chair.  In her post, she points out the flaws of her 3am project, but I think it's perfect.  You did an amazing job, girl!

I'm looking forward to what you have to share tonight!

Furniture Feature Friday - Favorites & a Link Party

Thanks so much to everyone who has asked about our safety.  We are in the middle of all of the flooded areas and our schools were closed today, but we're not seeing anything that bad in our immediate area.  It was much worse in the spring...and we had about 8" of standing water in our basement that time.  Please keep the families in the Susquehanna Valley in your prayers.  They are the ones who have been hit hard.

Closed schools definitely threw a kink in my day.  We ended up hiring a babysitter, so we could head out to deliver some new pieces to my space at Lucketts.  I actually ran into a reader there, which is always fun.  She hiked all the way up to the third floor just to see my space.  So sweet!

One last thing, if you notice some strange things happening with my website or you get an e-mail kicked back, it's OK.  It's under control and all a part of booting my website off the domain I will be using for my WordPress blog.  Just be patient for a couple of weeks while we're making some technical changes.
OK, enough gab.  Here are my favorites from last week.

Mandi from Vintage Revivals is super talented and she just drives that point home with her most recent chair makeover.  I love how bold she is with patterns and colors.  Maybe I'm just a big weenie.

Lily Field Furniture posted this lovely mustard yellow dresser.  It just looks happy and I love the black hardware against it.  Very classy.   This blog only has 13 followers, so show her (him?) some love.

Lastly, Lisa from My Not-So-Shabby Life tackled this ornate secretary and I love how it turned out.  It was totally worth all of the effort!  Can I have that brick wall, please?

As I type, my brain is fried.  Is it possible to write a blog post with only 1/4 of your brain functioning?  Well, we'll see how coherent this one is.  My mushy mind managed to spot some great, family oriented spaces and pieces of furniture from last week.  Here they are...

My dear friend Kelli from Restore Interiors set up this super sweet kid's table.  Our brains (when mine was fully functional) were on the same wavelength this week and I did a similar setup for an HGTV.com photo shoot.  My favorite part of hers?  The big bows on the back of the chairs.  So cute!

Dixie Delights shares her amazing basement transformation in this post.  It is bright, fun, cheery, sophisticated, chic AND family friendly all at the same time.  I just love it!  Well done!

And lastly, Amy from Blissful Blooms found these vintage wooden kid's chairs and painted each one in a different color.  It's so simple, but looks great.  Amy said these chairs make her smile.  They made me smile, too, so they made it to my favorites tonight.

How'd I do?  No gibberish in there, I hope. Thanks to everyone for participating.  You are a talented and inspiring bunch and I love that you take the time to hang out here.  Link away!

Furniture Feature Friday - excuses, a favorite & a link party

I am full of excuses tonight.  I started off the day with a snuggle with my youngest...very early.  Too early.  Then, I worked on a photo shoot, made breakfast, packed for the day (you have to do that with little ones) and headed off to the gym for some weight lifting.  Straight from the gym, I dropped off my boys for a day of swimming and playing with their babysitter and I went off to Lucketts.  I fluffed my space, shopped and snapped some pictures of other rooms to share with you.  I then met with Yasmin and Nadia of Wuslu.com for a yummy Italian dinner in Frederick, MD.  I can't wait to share some of the things we're cooking up together.  They are very inspiring and all around awesome ladies.  So, with that full day, I didn't get home until later in the evening, unloaded my car, spent some time with my family, got the kiddos in bed and here I am.  Last excuse...my Internet is being a little sluggish right now.

Due to all of these events, I only picked one favorite.

I've featured Kristine from The Paint Hive before and I'm so glad to see her back at this furniture party.  She shared a very creative way to get a chippy look on a painted piece of furniture.  (OK...I'll admit it was the fan that caught my eye, but I thought this technique was worth sharing!  You girls know me so well.)

I hope to be more attentive this week!

Furniture Feature Friday - Favorites & a Link Party

Well, here we are again.  Another Thursday night going into Friday.  Another party to show off the most awesome furniture in the blog world.  You are all so resourceful, creative and inspiring.  Can't wait to see all of the links.  Here are some of my favorites from last week...

Hue-ol-ogy shared this really simple table brought to life with a stunning color combination.  ASCP Antibes Green with Paris Grey.  Very cool (and I love the name of that blog.)

I absolutely love this pair of chairs (only one is shown obviously.)  I'm just a sucker for caned furniture and these are beauties!  Mrs. Hipp from The Hipp Life shares her failures and successes while recovering the seat cushion.  If you ever get sick of these chairs, call me.

Deborah from The Fisherman's Cottage shares her airy and bright freestanding kitchen.  It is put together so well...I love, love it.  I'd trade in my built-ins any day of the week.

Furniture Feature Friday - Favorites & a Link Party

I learned something today.  Do not work out really, really hard (especially during the squat track in a Body Pump class) when you're later delivering stuff to your room in an antique store that is on the third floor.  I just about collapsed carrying a box of stuff up to my space. My legs and arms were shaking. Lesson learned.

Anyway, it's nice to be snuggled on the couch with my laptop warming my sore quads.  Here are my favorite links from last week...

The second I saw this cupboard by Lisa from Recaptured Charm, it was love.  True love.  Like, Buttercup and Wesley love.  Lisa took a "eh" mirrored armoire and turned it into a "pie safe" that looks like it was plucked right out of a farm house.  Lisa and I go way back and this is by far my favorite thing she has ever done.  I want to steal it right off the page...in a nice, non-larceny kind of way.

Natty from Natty By Design, one of my favorite "furniture girls", shares some great tips on working with bubbling and cracked veneer.  You won't be so intimidated after reading this post.  It's worth it...you can get those pieces for pretty cheap, because other people are intimidated.  Don't let that be you!  (Miss Mustard Seed and Natty are joining forces to raise awareness for VIS, veneer intimidation syndrome.  We hope to eradicate it by 2014.)

And in keeping with useful furniture tutorials, Sarah from Three Boys takes the mystery out of working on the toughest part of upholstery, the back and sides.  I learned some new things reading this post and you probably will, too.

Enjoy the party!

Furniture Feature Friday - Favorites & a Link Party

I usually feature individual pieces of furniture each week, but out of all of the amazing entries from last week's party, it was two rooms that blew me away.  Here they are...

Erin from erin's art and gardens transformed her childhood dining set (and entire dining room) with paint and original art.  I love the soft shades of white and gray, the natural wood, the  personal touches and the artwork.  That horse painting...be still my heart.  Erin, if you find that painting missing one day...I'll just confess it right now.  It was me.

(For those who are literal...I'm only kidding.)

The second room that caught my fancy was this gorgeous bedroom by Stacy from Conspicuous Design.  Everything about this room is chic, classy and downright lovely.  I vow to not steal anything.  If that mirrored bench goes missing, it was definitely not me.

Thanks for participating and enjoy the party!!

Furniture Feature Friday - Favorites & a Link Party

You girls slayed it last week.  My mind was spinning at all of the amazing furniture pieces linked up.  Really...some of you put me to shame.  It's always an honor to feature some fellow furniture-lovers in this weekly party.  Truly.  Now that I've gushed all over you, here are some stand-outs from last week...

This card catalog makeover by Maple and Magnolia is WOW.  WOW, because I'm totally jealous and want one.  And WOW, because this took an insane amount of tedious work.

Abbie from Five Days Five Ways designed this beautiful nursery for her daughter Della.  This white chair with red piping is super chic against the aqua walls. Della's a blessed girl.  (I grew up in army housing with white walls.  Does that explain anything?)

Andrea from Sweet Vintage Decor painted and upholstered this antique bench in a grain sack.  This is my kind of furniture makeover!  Andrea certainly knows how to catch my eye.  Love it!

Lastly, Stacy from Not Just a Housewife repurposed some old doors into a privacy screen.  I love how she used different door styles, different colors and left the door knobs on to make this unique.  What a fun piece!

Thanks to all who participate and mingle.  Enjoy!

Furniture Feature Friday - Link Party

I had...

...VBS this morning

...a babysitter this afternoon, so I could clean my office, tag some things, paint, upholster and sand

...and a house full of teenagers this evening for a pizza/hangout/movie night.

Hence...no favorites were chosen this week.  I did look through a bunch of links, but I just didn't have the time to pick my favorites, grab the photos, write about them, add in the links and all that good stuff.  So sorry!  I'll share some favorites next week!
