The Olympics of Office Furniture: 1st Event - White Boards
Since I can't be in Beijing now for the 29th Olympic Games, I figured I'd have some fun with an office version of the grand tradition. For our first event I've chosen whiteboards. Although they may not seem terribly exciting, many a great ideas have started on these erasable canvasses.
Without further ado...
Our Bronze Medal goes to melamine. This hard plastic board with a clear coat is great for easy writing and erasing. It's best for light use, as the clear coat can wear away and the "ghosting effect" will occur.
Our Silver Medal goes to Dura-Rite. This high-pressure laminate provides a unique surface that is great for heavy daily use but is affordably priced. Dura-Rite are dust-free, and resistant to wear, stains, high temperatures, common detergents and chemical agents.
Last, but certainly not least, our Gold Medal goes to porcelain steel. The Cadillac of whiteboards, my friends. These boards are a bit more expensive than Melamine or Dura-Rite, though their cost has gone down dramatically since their inception. Porcelain Steel boards are intended for moderate to high or long term usage. The porcelain construction is much less susceptible to ghosting effects. These whiteboards are manufactured with a steel background which allows for magnets to be applied to them. If you are looking for a dry erase board to use often, the porcelain steel style will be the best fit for the long run.

Lastly, I'd like to give a shout out to my friends over at JibJab for creating another hilarious political satire cartoon. If you didn't catch the videos from the 2004 election, I highly recommend them. Here's their latest installment...
