An intriguing and whimsical housetour

I'm leaving for my big trip tomorrow - 9 weeks in 11 different countries. I'm freaking out a little -feeling just completely overwhelmed. I'm going to try to post as often as possible - depending on our hotel(s) internet situation - as I'm not bringing my laptop- yikes! I'm already suffering from phantom laptop syndrome. I know I should be posting something traveling related - but I'm just a little too scatter-brained to put anything together - so I'm going with a tried and true house tour.

This home is really different from anything else I've seen before. I think for the most part it somehow manages to avoid being over the top though. What do you think? Too quirky for you?

great wall color!

Amelie's adorable apartment! Lots of pictures!

I was watching Amelie the other night, and decided I had to write about her apartment. Probably the first thing that stands out is the palette- almost everything is warm red and oranges, with some green and blue here or there. For a "woman of almost 23" her apartment is very put together, and looks as if she's lived there for years and years. Being introverted and a little bit isolated, it makes sense that her place is much more than a crash pad, but her save haven. She also has great taste in art and wallpaper!

Her whimsical bedroom

The entry way...*love* this wallpaper

Her kitchen...I'm guessing it's only the wall behind her that is red, and then the other walls are tiled.

Even her windowsill is cute.

The living room. I really like the blue lampshade

I love that she has a dresser in the bathroom.

Whimsical and romantic interiors

These rooms are so beautiful, and they almost have a story book, Alice in wonderland sort of charm. Recently I've really been seeking out images like these to mentally prepare myself for the fact that once the cold weather gets here I'll be spending more time indoors.

I adore this kitchen and the classic black and white checked floors. Also the clean white counter space and empty glass bottles on the top shelf are lovely. I love the lighting fixture too! Laureen Rossouw, a stylist in South Africa, is the proud owner of this room.

A cozy, wonderfully personalized work space in the home of Lientjie Wessels and Robert Denton.

I'm so jealous of this gorgeous ledge with books and other knick knacks. The home belongs to Victoria Perry, a Cape Town architect

Mutual Heights building apartment in central Cape Town. I'm not usually one for perfect symmetry, but I like it here.

I can't say enough about Maranda Engelbrecht's of Manna Epicure gorgeous, gorgeous house. So white and so many perfect details. I'm really liking the tall vases on the table.

The bathroom of Kerstin Eser's lovely home. It must feel so "earthy" to step down into one's tub.

Cobus van Niekerk's converted post office looks like a set for a tea party. I love the mismatched tables too.

From the store Dorp, in South Africa. I'd love that framed chalkboard on the exposed brick in my kitchen.
